Stock, Reilly Help Softball Shut Down UMass Boston, 3-0

BOSTON—First-year Brooke Stock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) matched her career high with 10 strikeouts and combined with junior Ali Reilly (New Canaan, Conn.) on a five-hit shutout as visiting Babson College defeated UMass Boston, 3-0, in non-conference softball action on Wednesday afternoon.

With its seventh win in nine games, Babson is now 16-9 on the year. UMass Boston drops to 14-7 with its third consecutive loss.

Sophomore Annie Quine (Santa Monica, Calif.) doubled and drove in a pair of runs and first-year Annie Mitchell (Rehoboth, Mass.) added a pair of hits for the Beavers. Stock gave up just two hits in four innings to collect her ninth win of the season, while Reilly fanned two over the final three frames to record her first save of the spring.

Sophomore Roxanne Vento (Arlington, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with a double for the Beacons. First-year Megan Hoben (Bedford, Mass.) shouldered the loss after giving up three runs on five hits and five walks in 4.0 innings to drop to 2-3 on the year.

Stock struck out five of the first six batters she faced and the Green and White spotted her a 2-0 lead in third when Quine doubled home junior Nicole Civello (Hungtington Station, N.Y.) and first-year Jacqueline Paul (Burlington, N.J.) with two outs. The Beavers added to their lead an inning later when Hoben walked three straight batters before first-year Kayla Schinik (Watchung, N.J.) plated junior Samantha Smith (Hillsborough, N.J.) to make it 3-0.

Stock struck out the side after allowing a single and a walk in the fourth, while Reilly retired the final five hitters she faced to preserve the shutout in the late innings.

Babson returns to action on Friday when it visits Emerson for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m., while UMass Boston hosts UMass Dartmouth on Saturday at 12 p.m.
