    After falling 1-0 to sixth-seeded Coast Guard Academy in its opening game of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament, the Babson College softball team rallied for four straight victories over two days, including a pair that took extra innings on Sunday, May 5, to reach the NEWMAC Championship game while helping to secure an at-large berth into the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament.

    BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Catie Funk (Scarborough, Maine) hit a fourth inning home run, classmate Ashleigh Phelps (West Chester, Mass.) added an RBI single in the sixth inning and junior Kathleen Conway (Simsbury, Conn.) tossed a three-hit shutout helping third-seeded Babson College top second-seeded Rowan University, 2-0, in game eight of the Babson Park Regional on Saturday morning at Alumni Field.

    BABSON PARK, Mass.—Sophomore Gracie Marshall (Palo Alto, Calif.) had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs while classmate Allyson Fournier (South Windsor, Conn.) tossed a complete-game two-hitter to help top-seeded Tufts University cruise past Babson College, 9-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Babson Park Regional, moving to within one win from a second consecutive berth in the NCAA Finals.

    The NEWMAC released its postseason award winners for softball on Tuesday and Wednesday, and NCAA Tournament-bound Babson College had seven players receive honors. Highlighting the group were senior captain Catie Funk, who was named NEWMAC Player of the Year for the second season in a row, and junior Kathleen Conway, who earned Pitcher of the Year honors.

After winning a pair yesterday, the Beavers earned two more thrilling victories on Sunday before finally falling in the championship game against host Springfield College, 6-2.

    The Babson College Athletics Department held its 32nd Annual Senior Awards Banquet on Friday night where a total of eight individuals received honors. Women's basketball All-American Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) and men's soccer All-American Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) were named Female and Male Athletes of the Class, while women's volleyball captain Kathleen Lynch (Quincy, Mass.) received the Conlon Award, presented for the first time in honor of both Michael Conlon '96 and Michelle Conlon '94. Rounding out the list of senior award winners were softball star Catie Funk (Scarborough, Maine) and baseball slugger Chris Kucher (Westwood, Mass.), who were honored as the Scholar-Athletes of the Class. In addition to the senior awards, men's basketball first-year Travis Sheldon (Woodstock, N.Y.) received the Colin "Chip" Brown Award, women's soccer and lacrosse first-year Kristina Simonson (Easton, Mass.) was honored as the winner of the Lori Vengrow Award, and Athletics Communications Director Chris Buck received the Paul C. Staake Award for outstanding contributions to Babson Athletics.

The Beavers earned a 9-1, five-inning victory in game one before Funk’s heroics finished off a 4-2 win in game two.

    The Wellesley College softball team finished out a 6-4 win over crosstown and NEWMAC-rival Babson on Wednesday afternoon. The game originally started May 29th and was suspended due to darkness after four innings. The win lifts Wellesley to 20-9, 9-3 in the NEWMAC, while Babson dips to 22-10, 10-4 in NEWMAC play.
