Funk Named ECAC All-New England Second Team
On the heels of one of the greatest seasons in Babson College softball history, junior captain Catie Funk (Scarborough, Maine) has been selected to the ECAC All-New England Second Team at the shortstop position for the second year in a row.

Softball Stars Funk, Latini Receive All-New England Honors
After leading the Babson College softball team to a 25-18 record and a trip to the championship round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament, junior captain Catie Funk (Scarborough, Maine) and senior captain Nicole Latini (East Bridgewater, Mass.) each received All-Region honors this week. Funk was named to the All-New England First Team by both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association (NEISCA), while Latini garnered Third Team honors from the NFCA.

Six Softball Players Honored By NEWMAC; Funk Selected as Player of the Year
BABSON PARK, Mass.—The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its annual postseason awards on Monday and six Babson College softball players were honored, led by junior shortstop Catie Funk (Scarborough, Maine) who was selected as the NEWMAC Player of the Year. Senior catcher Nicole Latini (East Bridgewater, Mass.) joined Funk as a First Team selection, and sophomore first basemen Kelly King (Kennebunk, Maine) was named to the Second Team. Junior pitcher Meghan Brain (Pompton Plains, N.J.), sophomore pitcher Tess Rubega (Norwich, Conn.), and sophomore outfielder Katie Guido (Middleton, Mass.) were all named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team for their achievements in the classroom.

Babson Honors Class of 2012 at 31st Annual Senior Athletics Awards Banquet
The Babson College Athletics Department held its 31st Annual Senior Awards Banquet on Friday night where a total of eight individuals received honors. Two women’s basketball seniors, Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) and Nicole Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) were named co-winners of the Female Athlete of the Class, while men’s soccer senior Max Walker (Newton, Mass.) was named the Male Athlete of the Class.

Babson Teams Set For Huge Saturday
In addition to the top-seeded women’s lacrosse team hosting its conference semifinals and finals this weekend, three other Babson teams will take part in postseason play on Saturday. Third-seeded baseball will serve as co-host of the 2012 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament along with top-seeded Wheaton, second-seeded softball heads to top-seeded Springfield for a huge winners’ bracket matchup, and the track and field teams will travel to Smith for the 2012 NEWMAC Championships.

Softball Sweeps Coast Guard, Surges To Second Seed In NEWMAC Tourney
In one of the greatest regular season finishes in program history, the Babson College softball team swept the United States Coast Guard Academy, 8-4 and 13-8, in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader on Saturday to move all the way up to second place in the final conference standings. The Beavers (23-16, 10-6 NEWMAC), who sat in sixth place prior to yesterday's doubleheader against MIT, will now be seeded second and will host the a pair of games in the six-team double-elimination tourney this Tuesday.

Visiting Springfield College scored 19 runs on 23 hits en route to a sweep of host Babson College in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. With the 8-0 and 11-1 victories, the Pride improved to 19-10 overall and 10-2 in league play, while the Beavers fell to 16-15 overall and 6-6 in the conference.

The Babson College softball team closed out its spring break trip to Florida with yet another split on Friday, as the Beavers hammered SUNY Oneonta, 20-9, in five innings and then lost to perennial powerhouse St. Thomas (MN), 10-4. As a result, Babson returns home with an overall record of 7-7.

Michelle Littlefield Named Assistant Softball Coach, Assistant Equipment Room Coordinator
The Babson College Athletics Department has named Michelle Littlefield as its new Assistant Softball Coach, Director of Athletics Josh MacArthur and Head Coach Dave Canan announced recently. In addition to her softball duties, Littlefield will also serve as Assistant Equipment Room Coordinator under Julie Ryan.
