BABSON PARK, Mass. -- After turning in the greatest six-game stretch of her young collegiate career, Babson College sophomore shortstop Catie Funk (Scarborough, Maine) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Softball Player of the Week on Monday.
Funk batted .571 for the week, going 12-for-21 with five doubles, four home runs, a stolen base, 10 runs scored, and 12 RBIs in a perfect 6-0 week for the Beavers. She began the week by going 2-for-3 with a double in game one and 1-for-2 with a homer in game two of a doubleheader sweep of Wheaton on Wednesday. Two days later, she went 3-for-4 with a double, two homers, three runs, and five RBIs in game one and 2-for-5 with another double and an RBI in game two as Babson swept Brandeis. On Saturday, Funk closed out her monster week by leading the Beavers to a sweep of Smith, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in the opener and then going 2-for-4 with a double, a homer, two runs, and two RBIs in the nightcap.
For the week, Funk posted a .609 on-base percentage and an incredible 1.381 slugging percentage in six games. As a result, she is now hitting .448 for the season with a program-record 18 doubles, two triples, six homers, 33 runs, and 36 RBIs.
