CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Babson College softball team wrapped up its spring break trip to Florida with a pair of tough losses to nationally-ranked opponents on Friday, as the Beavers fell to 13th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater, 1-0, and then lost 15-7 to 10th-ranked Ithaca. With the losses, Babson will return home with a record of 7-7.

First-year Tess Rubega was magnificent in the opener for Babson, holding one of the nation's top teams to just one unearned run on four hits, walking one and striking out five in six innings of work. The only run she allowed came in the bottom of the sixth, as pinch-hitter Morgan Krisch singled in Haley Kruger, who had doubled with one out and moved to third on a single by Amanda Mertes.

Babson outhit Whitewater, 6-4, but the Beavers left eight people on base in the loss. Sophomore Jackie Enos led the way with a 2-for-4 performance in the leadoff spot, while junior Jess Pashos added her third double of the season in defeat.

In the Beavers' second game of the day and last of the trip, Ithaca scored eight of its 15 runs in the top of seventh inning to go up 15-0. Babson then scored eight runs in its final at-bat before finally suffering the 15-8 loss. The highlight of game two came courtsey of senior captain Jess Winer, who hit an inside-the-park grand slam in the seventh - the first home run of her collegiate career.

The Beavers will kick off the northern portion of their schedule on Sunday, when they host a double-header against 12th-ranked Coast Guard at noon. Both games will be played at Wellesley College due to unplayable field conditions at Babson.
