CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Babson softball team bounced back from a 6-3 loss to UMass-Boston to defeat SUNY Geneseo, 19-11, in five innings on Sunday. With their third straight split, the Beavers moved to 3-3 on their spring break trip to Florida.
First-year Tess Rubega was outstanding in defeat against the Beacons, giving up just one earned run on nint hits, walking two and striking out 10 in seven innings. Offensively, sophomore Catie Funk went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while junior Nicole Latini went 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs.
In their second game of the day, the Beavers trailed 7-3 after Geneseo plated four runs in the bottom of the third. However, Babson erupted for 16 runs in the next two innings to run away with the 19-11, five-inning victory. Sophomore Megan Brain came on in relief and earned her second win of the season for the Green and White, alloing just one earned run in 2 2/3 innings.
Highlighting the offense in game two for Babson was sophomore Jackie Enos, who busted out of her early-season slump with a 4-for-4 showing with two doubles, a triple, two runs scored, and six RBIs. Senior Jess Winer went 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs and three more driven in, junior Jess Pashos went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, sophomore Ashleigh Phelps went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and one knocked in, Funk went 2-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored, and four RBIs, and Latini went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. The two biggest hits of the day for Babson were the triples by Funk and Enos - both of which came with the bases loaded during the 10-run fifth inning. Winer's triple - the first three-bagger of her career - came in the fourth and plated a pair of runs.
