Liska Hurls Softball Past Clark, 5-2, In NEWMAC Tournament

NEW LONDON, CONN. - Junior Danielle Liska scattered five hits and struck out 11 leading fifth-seeded Babson to a 5-2 win over third-seeded Clark in Game #5 of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament.

Babson (20-21) exploded for four runs in the second inning with freshman Lisa Wojnar delivering the big hit, a two-run single to put the Beavers up 4-0. Freshman Rebecca Fellows walked with the bases loaded to score the first run before senior Courtney Thurston's infield single plated the second run of the inning.

Sophomore Katherine Tutela got Clark on the board with a solo home run to left leading off the third inning.

The Beavers added one more run in the fifth on an RBI double by freshman Nicole Latini.

Clark (17-18) added its final run of the game on a solo homer by junior Joanna Clark in the sixth. She had two of the Cougars five hits in the game.

Liska (14-9) walked just one and allowed only the two solo homers to pickup the win. Meghan Lennon (3-3), allowed four earned runs in 3 1/3 innings of work taking the loss for Clark.

Courtney Thurston and Latini each had two hits for the Beavers, who will play top-seeded Coast Guard later today at 4 p.m.
