Women’s Soccer Tops Eastern Connecticut State, 1-0

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Olivia West (Norwell, Mass.) scored in the 60th minute to help lift Babson College to a 1-0 win over visiting Eastern Connecticut State University in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

With the win, Babson evens its record at 1-1-0 overall, while Eastern Connecticut State slips to 0-3-0 overall.

Following a scoreless first half, West intercepted an errant back pass and dodged Warriors' senior goalkeeper Erin Collins (Millis, Mass.) just inside the top of the box before slotting a shot into the open net to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. The goal was the first of the year and third of West's career.

Eastern Connecticut had a pair of chances to equalize in the 77th minute but came up empty. Sophomore Haley Montesanto (East Haven, Conn.) had her bid from the left side of the box pushed away by Babson first-year goalkeeper Morgan Fedosiewich (Ottawa, Ontario), and senior Stephanie Sanchez (Manchester, Conn.) sent the rebound attempt just over the crossbar.

Beavers' junior Addie Lalor (Washington, D.C.) nearly opened the scoring in the 13th minute after running onto a through ball from sophomore Katherine Ryan (Winchester, Mass.), but Collins sprinted off her line and made a sliding tackle at the top of the box to keep the game scoreless. Collins also beat West to a cross by Lalor in the center of the box just over six minutes after halftime.

Fedosiwich finished with four saves for the Green and White, while Collins turned away three shots in defeat for the Warriors.

Both teams finished with eight shots and the Beavers attempted seven of the eight corner kicks in the match.

Babson returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts UMass Boston at 4 p.m., while Eastern Connecticut visits Western New England on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

• The Beavers are now 2-1-0 all-time against Eastern Connecticut.
• The clean sheet was the first in the career of Fedosiewich, who was making just her second start, and Babson's first since a 2-0 triumph at Wellesley on October 23, 2018.
• Prior to Saturday, the Beavers' last win with a 1-0 score line came on October 25, 2016, against Wheaton.
• The Green and White is 39-16-8 at home dating back to the start of the 2013 campaign.
