HARTFORD, Conn. –- Junior forward Jenny Ley (Warwick, R.I.) scored two first-half goals in a four-minute span to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-0 victory over the visiting Babson College Beavers in women’s soccer action this afternoon. Trinity, playing in its last home game of the 2010 regular season, improves to 6-3-4 with its first win in four games, while the Beavers suffer their third defeat in a row to drop to 10-6-1.
Trinity controlled play from the start, outshooting Babson, 14-1, in the first half and, 22-6, for the game. Ley blasted her first goal in 16:55 into the contest from the top of the box, converting on a pass ahead by senior co-captain midfielder Morgan Sackman (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.). The goal snapped a 314-minute scoreless streak for the Bantams. Freshman forward Shea Kusiak (Longmeadow, Mass.) fed Ley for the second Trinity goal in the 20th minute on a pass ahead of a diving Babson defender from the left wing to just in front of the right post. Bantam sophomore Heather Lyhne (Wethersfield, Conn.) rounded out the scoring less than seven minutes later with her first career marker from deep on the right side.
Trinity junior goalie Lily Pepper (Princeton Junction, N.J.) needed to make just one save in the first half, but her stop on a shot from point-blank range in front of the goal by Beaver senior tri-captain Patty Pytlik (Wellesley, Mass.) kept the game scoreless in the early going. Senior goalkeeper Emily Weedon (Wellesley, Mass.) made four stops in the second half, including a diving snag of a shot over her right shoulder by Babson sophomore midfielder Ashley Tourso (Glen Rock, N.J.) in the opening minutes of the second stanza.
Junior Lisa Wojnar (Bellaire, Texas) made eight saves for the Beavers.
