Collins, Pettengill Cap Off Stellar Lacrosse Careers With All-America Honors

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- After rewriting the program's record books and leading their team to four consecutive NEWMAC Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances, Babson College women's lacrosse senior captains Anna Collins (Winchester, Mass.) and Kaitlyn Pettengill (Hopkinton, Mass.) received the final honors of their magnificent careers on Wednesday. Collins became the first player in program history to be named to the IWLCA All-America First Team, while Pettengill was named to the IWLCA All-America Third Team.

Also named ECAC New England Offensive Player of the Year and ECAC All-New England First Team earlier this week, Collins garners All-America honors for the third straight season, making her the only three-time national honoree in Babson women's lacrosse history. The award comes after she led the team with 58 goals and 22 assists for 80 points this season - the program's second-highest single-season point total behind her own 91-point campaign in 2009.

Throughout her brilliant four-year career, Collins played in all 74 of Babson's games, amassing 216 goals and 58 assists for 274 points while also 156 groundballs. She ranks second behind only Pettengill on the program's all-time lists for goals and points, while tying for third in groundballs and ranking fourth in assists.

Collins now boasts an unprecedented three All-America awards in her lacrosse career, with First Team honors this spring, Second Team honors last year, and Third Team honors in 2008. She is also a two-time NEWMAC Player of the Year, a three-time All-New England First Team selection, and a three-time NEWMAC All-Conference First Team honoree.

Pettengill garners her second straight All-America Third Team award after another outstanding season that saw her rank second on the team with 56 goals and 18 assists for 74 points. Like her classmate, Pettengill played in all 74 of the Beavers' games over the last four seasons, and she recently graduated as the program's all-time leader with 218 goals and 277 points in her career. She also ranks third all-time with 59 career assists and seventh with 135 groundballs.

Like Collins, Pettengill leaves as one of the most decorated athletes in program history. In addition to her back-to-back All-America Third Team selections, she is a four-time IWLCA All-New England First Team honoree, a two-time ECAC All-New England Second Team selection (including this season), and a four-time NEWMAC All-Conference First Team honoree. Pettengill was also the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and the Inside Lacrosse National Rookie of the Year in 2007.

Three other Babson players received ECAC All-New England honors this week. Joining Pettengill on the Second Team were junior Alyssa Hood (Newport, R.I.), who ranked third on the team with 43 goals and 23 assists for 66 points this spring, and junior goalie Sarah Macary (Woodbury, Conn.), who went 13-4 with 159 saves, a 10.01 goals against average, and a .483 save percentage this season. Sophomore Trisha Babson (Duxbury, Mass.) was named ECAC All-New England Third Team after leading the Beavers with 34 assists and 89 draw controls this spring.
