BABSON PARK, Mass. -- After helping her team win its fourth straight conference championship and earn its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament bid, Babson College junior goalie Sarah Macary (Woodbury, Conn.) has been selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week.
The equivalent of the conference tournament MVP, the final NEWMAC
Player of the Week honor went to Macary following two spectacular
showings in net this weekend. In Saturday’s 16-7 semifinal
win over fifth-seeded MIT, she placed all 60 minutes and made six
saves. She then turned in one of the finest performances of her
collegiate career in Sunday’s championship game against
second-seeded Springfield, making 12 saves – including five
on free position shots – while allowing only three goals in
just under 55 minutes of action as Babson ran away with a 17-3
victory.
For the tournament, Macary posted 2-0 record with a 5.42 goals against average and a .643 save percentage in 115 minutes in net. As a result, she now boasts a 12-3 mark with a 9.74 GAA, a .482 save percentage, and 136 saves in 899 minutes this spring. Her numbers are even more impressive considering Babson has played perhaps the toughest schedule in the program's history, facing a total of five nationall-ranked teams. The Beavers, currently ranked 10th in the country by the IWLCA, will enter their fourth NCAA Tournament with a record of 14-3 on the season.
