WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College field hockey senior Haley Pesce (Roxbury, Conn.) was recognized for her success in the classroom when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its Academic All-Conference team on Wednesday.
A two-year starter at sweeper for the Beavers, Pesce was named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference team for the third season in a row. She has made one defensive save this season for a defense that ranks first in the league and 16th in Division III with a 0.90 goals against average.
Pesce has played a key role for a Babson defense that is allowing less than 10 shots per game and has recorded seven shutouts while allowing more than one goal just four times in 20 contests this fall. She has started 43 of 56 career games and has been a part of four straight NEWMAC regular season titles and the program's first Division III Final Four appearance in 2016.
In order to be eligible for NEWMAC Academic All-Conference consideration, honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2018 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
No. 15 Babson (17-3) is the top seed in the NEWMAC Tournament and will host fourth-seeded Springfield on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
