Eight From Field Hockey Garner ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Academic Honors

BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College field hockey team was honored for its work in the classroom late last week as eight members of the program were named to the ZAG Field Hockey/National Field Hockey coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic squad.

In addition to the individual honors, the Beavers were one of 124 Division III programs to earn ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA team recognition by virtue of its 3.16 grade-point average during the fall 2016 semester. The Green and White has now earned academic team honors in each of the last five seasons.

Seniors Kelsi McDougle (Hopedale, Mass.) was honored for the fourth year in a row, while classmates Victoria Spofford (Merrimac, Mass.) and Staci Swallow (South Portland, Maine) and juniors Jessica Kelley (Lincoln, R.I.), Julie Mortimer (Spencer, Mass.) and Elise Towers (Cicero, N.Y.) were all named to the team for the third time. Sophomore Ashley Tango (Reading, Mass.) was recognized for the second straight year and first-year Haley Pesce (Roxbury, Conn.) was selected for the first time.

The National Academic team recognizes those student athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.

Babson produced a historic 2016 campaign that saw it win both the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season and tournament titles on its way to winning a school-record 21 games and reaching the program's first Division III Final Four.
