ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Baldwin Wallace University made eight of its 12 three-pointers in the first half on its way to defeating Babson College, 66-52, in the Chuck Resler Tournament hosted by the University of Rochester inside the Louis Alexander Palestra on Saturday night.

Babson (0-1) dropped its season opener for the first time since 2013, while Baldwin Wallace, which is receiving votes in the D3hoops.com national poll, improves to 3-0 on the year.

Senior Payton Ouimette (Medfield, Mass.) finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Beavers. Senior Bianca Tomassini (North Branford, Conn.) and junior Katherine Tamulionis (Foxboro, Mass.) each had eight points, while classmate Emily Bonifacic (Allendale, N.J.) came off the bench to score seven points and grab three boards in the loss.

Junior Riley Schill (Sheffield Village, Ohio) scored 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting, while classmate Kasey Hughes (Springboro, Ohio) contributed 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Yellow Jackets. Sophomore Sydney Diedrich (Chardon, Ohio) added 10 points and three steals off the bench in the victory.

The Green and White scored on four of its first five possessions to take a 9-8 lead less than three minutes into the contest. Baldwin Wallace made five first-quarter triples and built a 22-15 advantage on another three-pointer by senior Hannah Fecht (Hilliard, Ohio) less than a minute into the second quarter. The Beavers got as close as four on two free throws by senior Teá Spellacy (Belchertown, Mass.) with 2:11 to go in the half, but Hughes and Schill each connected from beyond the arc to extend the Yellow Jackets margin back to 31-22 at the break.

Babson was held scoreless over the first 4:51 of the third quarter and trailed by as many as 17 before pulling back within 48-34 on two free throws by Ouimette in the closing seconds of the stanza. Schill scored five quick points to open the fourth quarter and Fecht knocked down her second triple of the game to push the Baldwin Wallace lead to 56-36 with just under seven minutes remaining.

The Beavers made a late push to cut their deficit to 10 with 1:47 remaining thanks to five straight points from junior Jacqueline Jozefick (Milford, Conn.) and another bucket by Ouimette. It's as close as they would get though, as Fecht was fouled on the ensuing possession and sank a pair of free throws to make it 12-point game with 1:16 to go.

The Green and White finished with a 28-12 edge in paint scoring, but went just 15-of-26 (57.7 percent) at the free throw line and was 3-of-12 from three-point range.
