WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College juniors Elizabeth Lane (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and Payton Ouimette (Medfield, Mass.) were recognized for their success in the classroom on Tuesday morning when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its Academic All-Conference team.
Lane, who earned her second consecutive academic all-conference award, has started 23 of 24 games and is averaging career highs of 7.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists this season. She has played her best as of late, putting up 10.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 41.7 percent over the last nine contests.
Ouimette, who garnered the first academic all-league honor of her career, is averaging 13.7 and 11.9 rebounds while shooting 50.4 percent in 24 starts this winter. She is tied for ninth in Division III with 16 double-doubles, and ranks first in the conference in rebounding, second in field goal percentage and third in scoring.
Academic all-conference honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2017 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
Babson (16-8, 12-3 NEWMAC) can clinch a share of its third straight regular season conference title when it hosts MIT on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
