BOSTON—After helping the Babson College women's basketball team capture its sixth conference championship in the last seven years on Sunday, sophomore Giovanna Pickering (Hull, Mass.) was named to the All-New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) first team when the league announced its postseason awards on Tuesday morning.
Pickering, who was selected as the conference rookie of the year last winter, leads the Beavers in scoring (12.9 points), assists (3.6), steals (2.1) and field goal percentage (47.2), while also grabbing 4.8 rebounds, good for third on the team. She finished second in the NEWMAC in steals and assists, fifth in made field goals (141) and made free throws (77), and eighth in scoring. Pickering recorded two double-doubles and reached double figures in scoring on 17 occasions, including four 20-point games, as the Green and White reached 20 wins for the 11th time in program history.
Babson (20-8), which is making its ninth NCAA Tournament appearance, will travel to No. 16/17 Bowdoin College for a first round game on Friday at 7 p.m.
