BOSTON—The Babson College men's cross country team finished fifth at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Sunday morning at Franklin Park.
MIT had eight of the top 10 individual finishers and cruised to its 22nd consecutive conference title ahead for second-place WPI, which totaled 45 points. Coast Guard Academy was a distant third with 99 points, while Springfield College (122) edged the Beavers (156) for fourth place.
Babson's top finisher was first-year Gabriel Ortega (Pompano Beach, Fla.), who placed 25th with a time of 27:20 on the 8k course. Sophomore Collin Regan (Pittsford, N.Y.) came in 40th crossing the finish line in 27:58, and rookie Dylan Raimondi (Quincy, Mass.) ran a time of 28:29 to come in 50th.
Seniors Nicholas Virkler (Lincoln, Mass.), who posted a time of 28:40, and Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.) were separated by just eight seconds while finishing 51st and 53rd, respectively. Sophomore Joseph Marwill (Hingham, Mass.) came in 57th in a time of 29:13, classmate Matthew Campbell (South Easton, Mass.) was 65th in 29:29, and first-year Thomas Croissant (Carpentersville, Ill.) earned 68th place in a time of 29:38.
Babson returns to action on November 16 when it travels to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, for the NCAA New England Championships.
• Arora was the only member of the Babson team that had raced competitively at Franklin Park prior to Sunday.
• The Beavers have now recorded 11 consecutive top five finishes at the league meet.
