NORTHAMPTON, Mass.—Senior Matthew Dynan (Reading, Mass.) finished 22nd overall to help the Babson College men's cross country team finish fifth at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Saturday at the rain-soaked Smith Cross Country Course.
The Beavers totaled 137 points and finished three points behind fourth-place Springfield. No. 20 MIT had six of the top seven individuals and won its 21st straight conference title, while WPI and Coast Guard came in second and third, respectively.
Dynan, who was looking to become just the fourth harrier in program history to earn a third all-conference honor, crossed the finish line with a time of 27:39. First-year Collin Regan (Rochester, N.Y.) ran 27:47 to come in 27th and sophomore Zach Goldberg (Westford, Mass.) placed 34th with a time of 28:10.
Junior Nicholas Virkler (Lincoln, Mass.) completed his first race of the season in a time of 29:09 to cross the finish line in 56th position, while exchange student Nando Baumann (Heiden, Switzerland) gutted out a time of 29:32 while limping to the finish line to come in 66th after suffering an injury during the race. Junior Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.) was two seconds behind him in 67th place and senior Austin Henry (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) came in 71st with a time of 30:05.
Babson returns to action on November 10 when it travels to Brunswick, Maine, for the NCAA New England Championships at Bowdoin. The meet will begin at 12 p.m.
