NORTON, Mass.--First-year Collin Regan (East Greenwich, R.I.) placed second in the men's race, while classmate Hannah Piispanen (Winchester, Mass.) came in third on the women's side as the both Babson College cross country teams fell to Wheaton College on Friday afternoon in their annual season-opening dual meet. The Lyon men defeated the Beavers 22-34, while the women of Wheaton defeated Babson 21-37.
Regan, who made his college debut, posted a 5k time of 16:37 to finish just two second behind the winner, while sophomore Zach Goldberg (Westford, Mass.) ran 16:41 for fourth, and first-year Evan Goddard (Hingham, Mass.) recorded a time of 17:17 to place eighth. First-year Joseph Marwill (Hingham, Mass.) crossed the finish line with a time of 17:19 to finish ninth and classmate Michael Cantaluppi (Randolph, N.J.) was just behind him with an 11-th-place time of 17:24.
Senior Austin Henry (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) came in 14th running 18:37, while junior Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.), who finished one spot behind him, rounded out the Beaver men's top seven with a time of 18:43.
On the women's side, Piispanen ran a 2-mile time of 12:45 to finish less than 20 seconds behind the runner-up in her first collegiate race, while first-year Vivian Lehman (Weston, Mass.) logged a time of 12:54 to place fourth.
The rest of the Beavers' scorers swept ninth through 13th place, led by first-yearr Nina Sitarski's (Plainville, Mass.) time of 13:17. Classmate Alida Beste (Burlington, Vt.) crossed the finish line in 14:28, Amanda Karch (Sandwich, Mass.) was just 14 seconds behind her, and sophomore Camille Lewis (Cheshire, Conn.) another three seconds back. Fellow sophomore Kelley Burtch (Norwell, Mass.) rounded out the group with a time of 14:01.
The Beavers return to action on Saturday, September 8, when they head to Northampton, Mass. for the Smith Invitational.
