Dynan Finishes Fourth Overall as Beavers Record Best Team Result Since 2002
NORTHAMPTON, Mass.—Sophomore Matthew Dynan (Reading, Mass.) recorded the top individual finish New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) history to help the Babson College men's cross country team come in third at the conference meet on Saturday afternoon at Smith College.
MIT placed seven runners in the top nine and finished with 19 points to claim its 19th straight league title. WPI had seven of the top 16 harriers and was second with 55 points, while the Beavers came in third to match the 2002 team for the best finish in NEWMAC history with 96 points. The Coast Guard Academy and Springfield College rounded out the top five.
Dynan posted a time of 25:55 to become just the fifth individual to earn All-NEWMAC honors with his fourth place finish. Junior John Decker (Parkland, Fla.) came in 22nd overall with a personal-best time of 26:42, while classmate Jonathan Miller (West Westford, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 26th position with a time of 26:59.
Fellow junior Scott Atwood (West Newbury, Mass.) finished 33rd in 27:14 and classmate Ryan Colaco (Danville, Calif.) and first-years Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.) and Nicholas Virkler (Lincoln, Mass.), who also recorded a new PR, were separated by just seven seconds while finishing 54th through 56th for the Green and White.
Babson will take next weekend off before traveling to Westfield State for the NCAA New England Championships on November 12.
• Dynan is the first Babson harrier to earn all-conference accolades since Mark Gulesian '15 came in 12th in 2011.
• Prior to Saturday's third-place result, the Beavers had finished fifth in three consecutive even-numbered years going back to 2010.
