NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's cross country teams returned to action after a two-week hiatus with a number of strong performances at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Beaver men came in 12th out of 42 teams, while the women's squad finished 22nd overall.
First-year Matthew Dynan (Reading, Mass.) came in 17th to lead the men with a time of 25:54.87, good for the eighth-fastest 8k time in program history. Classmate Walker Odell (Santa Barbara, Calif.) finished 66th with a time of 26:59.18, while fellow first-year Ryan Vandervalk(Glen Rock, N.J.) crossed the finish line in a time of 27:01.79, good for 72nd position.
Sophomore Jonathan Miller (Westford, Mass.) was 85th overall with a time of 27:15.99, first-year Austin Henry (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) finished with a time of 27:45.57 and sophomoreScott Atwood (West Newbury, Mass.) completed the course in a time of 28:02.57. ClassmateRyan Colaco (Danville, Calif.) also had a strong race, posting a time of 28:52.88.
On the women's side, sophomore Melanie Plattner (Fort Lee, N.J.) made her season debut and was the Beavers' top finisher with a time of 20:13.10 on the 5k course. First-year Chaela Hood(Plymouth, Mass.) came in just over three seconds behind her with a time of 20:16.33, while junior Heather Murphy (Perrineville, N.J.) posted a time of 20:55.96.
Senior Katie Donovan (Darien, Conn.) crossed the finish line with a time of 21:53.92, first-yearMy-Linh DeBonis (Framingham, Mass.) was less than a second behind her with a time of 21:54.31 and classmate Emily MacDonald (East Sandwich, Mass.) completed the course in 22:53.75.
• Senior Kevin Jang (Basking Ridge, N.J.) shattered his previous best time by over two-and-a-half minutes, finishing the course with a new personal best of 30:53.34
• Sophomore Jonathan Martin (Valrico, Fla.) finished just one second off his previous best set last season.
• The Babson men came in eighth among Division III squads.
• The women finished 17th among Division III teams.
