Men Sweep Top Five Spots To Edge Lyons
SHARON, Mass.—The Babson College cross country teams used a number of strong individual performances to split a season-opening dual meet with Wheaton College at Deborah Sampson Park on Friday afternoon. The men swept the top five spots to claim a 15-43 victory, while the women posted a pair of top-10 finishes and were edged 17-46 by the Lyons.
First-year Matthew Dynan (Reading, Mass.) put together the performance of the day, finishing the 5k course with a time of 16:25 to cruise to a 42-second win over classmate Ryan Vandervalk (Glen Rock, N.J.). Sophomore Jonathan Miller (Westford, Mass.) came in third with a time of 17:17, first-year Austin Henry (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) placed fourth with a time of 17:36 and sophomore Scott Atwood (West Newbury, Mass.) was just three seconds behind him, finishing fifth with a time of 16:39.
Sophomore Ryan Colaco (Danville, Calif.) came in ninth overall with a time of 17:59, while first-years Jake Fishkin (Hagerstown, Md.), Walker Odell (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Edward Tomasso (Farmington, Conn.) finished 11th through 13th.
In the women's two-mile race, first-year Chaela Hood (Plymouth, Mass.) finished fourth overall with a time of 12:45. Classmate My-Linh DeBonis (Framingham, Mass.) placed ninth, finishing the course in a time of 13:09, while senior Katie Donovan (Darien, Conn.) came in 14th with a time of 13:39.
Junior Heather Murphy (Perrineville, N.J.) posted a time of 14:00 to place 16th in her Babson debut, first-year Emily MacDonald (East Sandwich, Mass.) came in 18th and junior Amy Warner (Rockland, Mass.) finished 21st overall.
The Beavers return to action on Saturday, September 19, when they travel south to compete at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational.
