Gulesian Runs Third-Fastest Time in Program History To Come In Seventh
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's cross country teams returned to action with a tremendous performance that featured 13 personal-best times on Saturday at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. Led by a seventh-place finish from senior Mark Gulesian (Miami, Fla.), the men posted their best-ever result at the event, coming in eighth out of 34 teams, while the women finished 18th in a field of 38 teams.
Gulesian, who set a personal best of 25:09 at UMass-Dartmouth in 2012, finished with a time of 25:17 on the 8k course on Saturday, good for the third-best time in program history. Junior Ian MacLean (South Hamilton, Mass.) posted a PR with a time of 26:19 to come in 44th and was followed by first-year Jonathan Miller (Westford, Mass.), who came in 45th with a time of 26:20.
First-year John Decker (Parkland, Fla.) finished in the 74th position with a career-best time of 27:00, sophomore Will Nemeth (Coplay, Pa.) set a personal-best time of 27:24 to finish 97th, while first-year Scott Atwood (West Newbury, Mass.) and sophomore Tim Hatzopoulos (Park Ridge, Ill.) came in with career-best times of 27:39 and 27:46, respectively.
On the women's side, four of the Beavers' top five runners posted the best times of their careers, led by first-year Melanie Plattner (Fort Lee, N.J.), who came in 79th with a time of 19:56. Junior Kelli Halligan (Melrose, Mass.) finished 90th in a time of 20:06, while sophomore Jinane Gedeon Achi (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) cut 38 seconds off her previous best time, finishing the 5k course in 20:19 to come in 97th.
Junior April Goya (Oceanside, Calif.) posted the best time of her career by 26 seconds, finishing in 21:12, and first-year Sarah Anthony (Netcong, N.J.) had a strong race, coming in with a time of 21:15.
Babson returns to action next Saturday when it heads to Williams College for the Purple Valley Classic. The men's race will start at 12:15p.m., followed by the women's race at 1:00 p.m.
