WESTWOOD, Mass.—Six members of the Babson College men's track & field program were recognized when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon.
Senior Matthew Dynan (Reading, Mass.) was named NEWMAC Track Athlete of the Week, junior Sean Rezendes (Scituate, Mass.) was tabbed as the field athlete of the week, and the quartet of juniors Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.) and Nicholas Virkler (Lincoln, Mass.), sophomore Ethan Kohanik (Delmar, N.J.) and first-year Colin Cianciolo (East Greenwich, R.I.) were selected as the league's relay team of the week.
Dynan has posted two NCAA regional qualifying results and set a school record in the Beavers' first two meets. He came in second with a qualifying score of 3:55.78 in the 1500 meters and placed eighth with another qualifying time of 1:56.01 in the 800 meters at Point Loma's Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet on March 16. Dynan followed it up by breaking a seven-year-old school record with his time of 15:14.34 in the 5000 meters to place second at the Bridgewater State Invitational.
Additionally, Dynan's time in the 1500 meters currently ranks sixth in Division III.
Rezendes came in sixth by clearing 5-feet, 11.25-inches in the high jump at Point Loma, and finished second with a career-best leap of 20-feet, 9-inches in the long jump at Bridgewater State. Arora, Virkler, Kohanik and Cianciolo posted a time of 3:28.98 to grab seventh place in the 4x400-meter relay at Point Loma back on March 16.
Babson returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Tufts to compete in the SnowFlake Classic beginning at 10 a.m.
