Men's Track & Field Places Fourth, Women Finish Eighth at Bridgewater State Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass.—The Babson College men totaled 54.5 points on the way to finishing fourth, while the women's squad recorded 41 points to place eighth overall at the Bridgewater State Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The top individual performance of the day came in the 5,000-meter run where senior Matthew Dynan (Reading, Mass.) broke a seven-year-old record by almost three seconds and qualified for the NCAA regional meet with his second-place time of 15:14.34. Junior Sean Rezendes (Scituate, Mass.) also came in second with a career-best leap of 20-feet, 9-inches in the long jump, and the quartet of juniors Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.) and Nicholas Virkler (Lincoln, Mass.), sophomore Ethan Kohanik (Delran, N.J.) and first-year Colin Cianciolo (East Greenwich, R.I.) came in first in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:34.19.

Junior Sean Haney (Duxbury, Mass.) had strong day coming in third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.32 and placing seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 23.91. Kohanik crossed the finish line in 1:01.28 to place third in the 400 hurdles, while Cianciolo finished fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 52.45 and was followed closely behind by Virkler (52.62) in fifth and Arora (53.59) in seventh.

Jeremie Cabling (Hawthorne, N.J.) posted a time of 17.34 to come in seventh in the 110-meter hurdles, Rezendes cleared 5-feet, 8.75-inches to finish eighth in the high jump, and junior Kalyan Ramkumar's (Delmar, N.Y.) leap of 38-feet, 11.75-inches was good for an eighth-place showing in the triple jump. First-year Joseph Marwill (Hingham, Mass.) rounded out the Beavers' top-10 finishes by placing 10th with a time of 2:09.70 in the 800 meters.

The top women's performance of the day came in the 4x100-meter relay as senior Angelina Raffone (Westbrook, Conn.), sophomore Ana Lamoso (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and first-years Katherine Jacobs (East Granby, Conn.) and Sydney McLaughlin (Sherborn, Mass.) broke a school set back in 2013 with their time of 51.61 on the way to taking first place. Raffone also came in second in the 200 meters with a time of 26.74, while Lamoso recorded the top times of her career to come in sixth in the 400 meters (1:05.37) and 14th in the 200 (29.30).

Junior Stephanie Rodriguez (Guatemala City, Guatemala) recorded a fourth-place showing with her time of 19:33.79 in the 5000 meters, first-year Vivian Lehman (Weston, Mass.) was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:14.89, and Jacobs was a half-second behind her in sixth place. Sophomore Emma Cavanaugh (Southbury, Conn.) added an eighth-place showing in the 1500 meters and McLaughlin came in ninth in the 400 meters.

First-year Nina Sitarski (Plainville, Mass.) was the lone Babson female to compete in a field event on Saturday placing eighth in her collegiate debut in the javelin with a toss of 99-feet, 3-inches.

Babson returns to action next Saturday when it competes at the Tufts SnowFlake Invitational beginning at 10 a.m.
