LA CROSSE, Wis.—Babson College senior John Decker (Parkland, Fla.) saw his storied career come to a close in the 800-meter run prelims at the 2018 NCAA Division III Track & Field National Championships on Friday night at Roger Harring Stadium.
Decker, who entered the night seeded 10th in the 800 meters for the second year in a row, posted a time of 1:51.78 to finish fourth in his heat. His time was good for 11th place out of 20 runners in the prelims and was 0.68 seconds behind Nick Neville of Rowan, who grabbed the ninth and final spot in Saturday's final.
The only All-American in program history, Decker leaves Babson owning the top 10 times in the 800 meters. A four-time New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champion, he earned all-region honors at the NCAA regional championships in each of the last three seasons, and USTFCCCA All-New England accolades in both 2017 and 2018.
