NEW ORLEANS—Babson College senior John Decker (Parkland, Fla.) added to his postseason accolades when he was selected to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-New England team for the second year in a row on Monday.
The top five individuals in each event from eight different regions, a total of 743 men in Division III, were awarded all-region accolades by the USTFCCCA. Decker is the only male or female at Babson to earn this distinction, which started during the 2015-16 season.
Decker, who qualified for the NCAA National Championships in the 800-meter run for the second year in a row, posted the region's fourth fastest time (1:51.14) at the Long Beach State Invitational back on April 20. He owns the 10th best time in Division III and captured his second consecutive New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) 800-meter title last month.
The only four-time conference champion in program history, Decker set a school record in the prelims (1:50.48) and then earned Babson's first All-America honor with a fourth-place finish in the finals of the 800 meters last May. He came in second at Princeton's Sam Howell Invitational in early April and earned the third all-region award of his career with a second-place showing in the 800 at the NCAA New England Championships earlier this month.
The 800-meter prelims are set for 6 p.m. ET on Friday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
