Ficht Named to USTFCCCA Men's Track & Field All-Academic Team

NEW ORLEANS—Babson College sophomore Gabe Ficht (Newburyport, Mass.) was honored for his success on the track and in the classroom as he was named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic team late Friday afternoon.

One of 402 Division III men selected to the squad, Ficht becomes just the second Babson athlete named to the team since national ranking and NCAA qualification became part of the process in 2008. In order to qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have compiled at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average and have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship, or finished the regular season ranked in the top-50 nationally in an individual event or in the top-35 in a relay event.

Ficht produced a strong 2017 campaign that included a personal best in the 400-meter dash (49.98) at the NCAA New England Championships, while helping the Beavers' 4x400-meter relay team break its own school record with a time of 3:16.70 at the NEICAAA Championships in May. Ficht and the relay squad captured the program's first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) relay title, and captured all-region honors at both the NCAA regional and NEICAAA meets.

Ficht and senior JD Greenfield (Reading, Mass.), junior John Decker (Parkland, Fla.) and sophomore Matthew Dynan (Reading, Mass.) ranked 24th nationally on the NCAA Championship qualifying list for the 4x400-meter relay.
