BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) and sophomores Chris Kolesnik (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Andre Libnic (Coral Gables, Fla.) all won in both singles and doubles as Babson College edged No. 40 Bates College, 5-4, in non-conference men's tennis action on Sunday at the Babson Tennis Complex.
With the win, Babson improves to 7-3 on the year, while Bates sees its record drop to 3-7 overall.
The Beavers and Bobcats played singles first and each recorded three straight sets victories. Libnic won 6-3, 6-1 at number two, Rosenbluth posted a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at number three, and Kolesnik rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 result at number four. Junior Alberto De Mendiola (San Jose, Costa Rica) and first-year Tyler Zhang (Southborough, Mass.) fell 7-5, 6-4 at first and fifth singles, respectively, while junior Dylan Pace (Atherton, Calif.) dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision at number six.
Libnic and Kolesnik recorded an 8-3 victory to give Babson's fourth point of the match, and Rosenbluth and De Mendiola sealed the win at number one with an 8-7 (7-5) triumph. Bates lone point in doubles came at number two where senior Ben Eckardt (Montgomery, N.J.) and junior Nick Glover (Austin, Texas) defeated Pace and Zhang, 8-6.
The Beavers return to action on Thursday when they open conference play with a 4 p.m. match at MIT, while Bates hosts Colby on Thursday at 4 p.m.
• Babson's win over Bates was the first in 11 tries going back to 2005.
• Sunday's victory was the first over a nationally-ranked opponent in at least a decade for the Beavers, who have played four of their last five matches against teams currently ranked in the ITA top-40.
