WESTWOOD, Mass.—The Babson College men's tennis team collected one first-place vote and was picked to finish second when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its preseason coaches' poll on Thursday.
MIT, which has won 20 straight conference championships, garnered six of seven first-place votes to finish first in the poll. Wheaton College and Coast Guard Academy tied for third place, while Clark University came in fifth.
First-year head coach Michael Kopelman inherits five players from a team that finished 12-5 overall and 5-1 in NEWMAC play. Included in this group are a trio of all-conference performers that helped the Green and White win seven of its final nine matches on the way to reaching the conference tournament final for the sixth year in a row.
The Beavers (2-0), who won a pair of dual matches in the fall, open the spring portion of their schedule against Holy Cross at the Babson Sports Club on March 2 beginning at 1 p.m.
