NEW LONDON, Conn.--Sophomore Dan Levitan (Winter Park, Fla.) and first-years Chris Kolesnik (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Andre Libnic (Coral Gables, Fla.) were all victorious in singles and doubles to help Babson College defeat the Coast Guard Academy, 7-2, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis action on Sunday afternoon.
Babson, which won its conference opener for the first time since 2015, improves to 6-3 overall. Coast Guard slips to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the NEWMAC.
The Beavers took control of the match by racing out to a 3-0 lead in doubles. Kolesnik and junior Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) were 8-4 winners at number one, Libnic and senior Ben Roque (Coral Gables, Fla.) breezed to an 8-2 victory at number two, and Levitan and sophomore Dylan Pace (Atherton, Calif.) matched their result with an 8-2 triumph at number three.
Libnic was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at number one, while Kolesnik and Levitan recorded matching 6-2, 6-3 results and third and fourth singles, respectively. Senior Dylan Levy (Miami, Fla.) picked up the final point of the day for the Green and White wiht a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number five.
Babson returns to action on Thursday when it hosts UMass Boston at 3:30 p.m., while Coast Guard travels to Clark on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
• The Beavers are 16-6 against Coast Guard going back to 2001 and have won eight consecutive matches against the Bears.
• Babson has now won 30 straight NEWMAC matches against opponents other than MIT.
• The Beavers are 6-0 this season against teams outside the ITA Division III Top 40.
