Men's Tennis Opens Spring With 8-1 Setback to No. 30 Stevens

BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College men's tennis opened the spring portion of its 2016-17 schedule with an 8-1 setback to the 30th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon at the Boston Sports Club.

With the loss, Babson dips to 1-4 on the year, while Stevens improves to 2-3 overall.

The Beavers were forced to play from behind after dropping all three points in doubles. First-year Alberto De Mendiola (San Jose, Costa Rica) and junior Ben Roque (Coral Gables, Fla.) suffered an 8-3 loss at number one, sophomores Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) and Ho Wang Alastair Ng (Hong Kong) dropped an 8-6 decision at number two and senior Dom Wysolmerski (Rutland, Vt.) and first-year Dylan Pace (Atherton, Calif.) were defeated, 8-4, at number three.

De Mendiola earned Babson's lone point of the day with a 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-2) triumph at number one singles. Rosenbluth rallied force a third set at number two before falling 6-3, 0-6, 1-0 (10-6), while the Ducks won each of the final four singles matches in straight sets.

The Beavers return to action on March 20 when they begin four straight days of matches against Carthage in Orlando, Fla.
