PUERTO RICO - The Babson College men's tennis team outlasted the host University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in a four-hour, 10-minute marathon on Sunday, as the Beavers opened its spring break trip with a 5-4 victory. With the win, Babson moved back over the .500 mark at 4-3 on the year, while PRM fell to 0-3.
Puerto Rico-Mayaguez held a 2-1 lead after doubles play, with Babson's lone point coming vie an 8-5 win at number two by first-year Justin Albert (Newton, Mass.) and sophomore Austin Conti (Murray Hill, N.J.). The Beavers then rallied with wins in four of the six singles matches to earn the 5-4 victory, including a pair of three-set triumphs.
Junior Alex Kamergorodsky (Millis, Mass.) won a tough match at number two, 6-2, 7-6 (0), junior co-captain Brian Lafayette (Burlington, Vt.) added a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number five, and first-year Taylor Dutton (Portland, Ore.) pulled out a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win at number six. With Babson leading 4-3, junior co-captain Ken Lin (Cavendish Heights, Hong Kong) rallied from a set down to clinch the overall victory at number four, winning 6-7 (7-5), 6-0, 6-4.
