Swimming & Diving Opens Season with Sweep of UMass Dartmouth

Beavers Win 21 of 24 Events Against Corsairs

DARTMOUTH, Mass.—The Babson College swimming & diving teams combined to finish first in 21 events on the way to sweeping its dual meet against UMass Dartmouth on Friday evening inside the Tripp Athletic Center Pool. The men posted a 156-67 victory over the Corsairs, while the Beavers recorded a 133-66 win the women's half of the meet.

First-years Caitlin Caron (Cheshire, Conn.) and Angela Li (Belmont, Mass.) led the Babson women with two individual victories apiece. Caron was first in both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, while Li opened with a victory in the 200-yard IM and later touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Senior Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.) won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.60, and first-year Molly Cox (Orange, Conn.) came in first in the 100-yard backstroke and also helped the Beavers win both the 200 free and 200-yard medley relays. Sophomore Elizabeth Demoine (Avon-by-the-Sea, N.J.) also was a part of both relay wins and came in second by less than a second in the 100-yard butterfly.

First-year Lindsay Nowak (Charlotte, N.C.) won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.30, and also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke. Sophomore Abigail Voce (Oxford, N.Y.) won the 100 freestyle and finished just 0.26 seconds behind Caron in the 200 freestyle, while first-year Leah Smith (Sidney, Maine) won the 1000 freestyle and came in second in the 500 free.

Sophomore Andrea Hamel (Gloucester, Mass.) recorded a second-place result in the 50 free, first-year Madeleine Green (Rye Beach, N.H.) was second in the 100 free, and sophomore Caroline Daskalakis (Belmont, Mass.) added a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.

Eight different swimmers recorded a first-place finish for the Babson men, highlighted by first-years Alvin Oentoro (Houston, Texas) and Charles Wang (San Marino, Calif.). Oentoro won the 1000 free with a time of 10:10.29 and the 100-yard butterfly in 54.25, while Wang took the 200 IM in 1:57.38 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.31.

Senior Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was first in the 500 free and second by just 0.63 seconds in the 200 free, while classmate Alex Damiecki (Centerville, Mass.) won the 50 free with a time of 22.08 and came in second to Wang in the 100 breaststroke. Junior Alex Dibbayawan (Bangkok, Thailand) touched the wall first in the 50 free and was the runner-up in the 100 free, and first-year Mark Fanelli (La Cañada, Calif.) claimed victory in the 200 free to go along with a second-place showing in the 100 backstroke.

Junior Kevin Luu (Malden, Mass.) edged Fanelli for first in the 100 backstroke, sophomore Aaron Huynh (Mission Viejo, Calif.) came in second in the 200 IM and was part of two relay victories, and junior Connor O'Brien (Tempe, Ariz.) finished second in both the 500 and 1000 freestyle events. Sophomore Aiden Asuncion-Duong (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) was the runner-up in the 100 free, while first-year Daniel Donahue (Acton, Mass.) added a runner-up result in the 100 butterfly.

Senior Michael Cerny (Windsor Locks, Conn.) posted third-place results in both the 50 free and 100 butterfly for the Beavers.

Babson returns to action next Friday when it travels to WPI for a series of dual meets beginning at 6 p.m.
