WORCESTER, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed in a series of dual meets at the WPI Sports & Recreation Center Pool on Friday night. The Beavers suffered losses to Brandeis (184-102) and the host Judges (157-122) on the men's side, while the women fell to Brandeis (177-67), WPI (180-60) and Smith (188-96).
The Green and White recorded six top-three finishes in the women's half of the meet, led by two apiece from sophomore Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.) and first-year Jordan Mailly (Glastonbury, Conn.). Rentovich came in second with a time of 25.82 in the 50-yard freestyle and also was the runner-up in the 100 free (56.25), while Mailly placed third in both the 200 free and 200-yard backstroke. The duo also teamed up with first-years Nataliya Gowan (San Antonio, Texas) and Celine Nie (Irvine, Calif.) to come in second in the 200 free relay.
Nie added a third-place showing in the 100 backstroke, a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, and came in fifth in the 400-yard medley relay along with Rentovich, Mailly and first-year Luna Zhang (Auburndale, Mass.).
The Babson men posted nine top-three finishes, which included the lone victory of the night by sophomore Alex Damiecki (Centerville, Mass.) in the 100-yard butterfly. Damiecki added a second-place showing in the 100-yard breaststroke, while senior Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, Fla.) posted times of 22.07 in the 50 free and 49.31 in the 100 free to place second in both events.
Sophomore Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was the runner-up in the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle, in addition to finishing third in the 400 IM. First-year Kevin Luu (Malden, Mass.) came in third in the 100 backstroke, junior Kenneth Mun (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) was fourth in the 100 breaststroke, and first-years Lachlan Dibbayawan (Bangkok, Thailand) and Connor O'Brien (Tempe, Ariz.) placed fourth in the 50 free and 500 free, respectively.
Posk, Damiecki, Dibbayawan and senior Ross Ojerholm (Worcester, Mass.) finished second in the 200 free relay, while first-year Taras Polakoff (Orange County, Calif.) joined Posk, Damiecki and Dibbayawan to help the Beavers come in third in the 400 medley relay.
Babson returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Regis for a double dual meet against Norwich and the host Pride starting at 1 p.m.
