Swimming and Diving Flies Past Bridgewater State

RESULTS

Bridgewater, Mass. - The Babson College men's and women's swimming teams had a strong showing at Bridgewater State College on Thursday evening winning 22 of the 26 events. The men won by a score of 134-69 and the women finished on top by a score of 116-87.

For the men, the 400 yard medley relay team made up of senior captain Ted Plaisted (Mountain Lakes, N.J.), first-years Ryan Akiba (Corona del Mark, Calif.), David Yoon (Irvine, Calif.) and Joe Kent (Moscow, Russia) finished first with a time of 3:59.51. Plaisted also took first place in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.44. Kent won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 23.65 and Yoon took the win in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:19.37. The 200 yard freestyle relay team also came out on top finishing in 1:35.77 with a rookie team consisting of first-years Rob Chapruet (Danvers, Mass.), Douglas McCadden (Lyman, Maine), Michael Flaherty (Walpole, Mass.), and Edvard Arnet (Tokyo, Japan).  Arnet also took an individual first place finish in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:14.73. Sophomore Matt Turkot (Barrington, Ill.) took two individual wins in the 100 yard and 200 yard freestyle with times of 52.44 and 1:57.61 respectively. Junior Joel Bonina (Marston Mills, Mass.) won the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:34.86 and sophomore Mike Gurevich (Framingham, Mass.) finished first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:06.57. Senior Aaron Paradis (Norwich, Conn.) had another spectacular performance finishing first in both diving competitions. In the 1-meter dive he finished with 313.35 points and in the 3-meter dive he had a final score of 308.55.

Sophomores Brittany Bishop (Little Neck, N.Y.) and Mallory Mosk (San Clemente, Calif.) both finished with three first place finishes for the women. Bishop came out on top in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.09 and in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 57.17 while Mosk finished first in the 200 yard individual medley relay and in the 200 yard butterfly with time of 2:25.54 and 2:22.86 respectively. Both were also a part of the first place 400 yard medley relay team also consisting of sophomore Nikita Nadkarni (North Brunswick, N.J.) and junior Mia Filippini (Lake Forest, Ill.) that finished in a time of 4:31.79. Nadkarni also had an individual first place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke where she finished with a time of 2:41.91. Babson's other relay team consisting of Filippini, first-year Albertine Turrini (Paris, France), and  sophomores Meaghan Rohde (St. Paul, Minn.) and Sara Martinek (Riverside, Ill.) finished first in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:49.67. Martinek also had a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.12. Sophomore Julia Frenette (Burlington, Vt.) took a first place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:35.34 and first-year Keira Yeager (Huntington, N.Y.) came in first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:46.54.

The men will close out their regular season with a home meet on Saturday against Springfield at 1:00pm while the women will next swim at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championships starting on February 19th at Wellesley College.
