Men's and Women's Swimming Dominate Gordon
BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The Babson College swimming and diving teams combined to win 31 of 32 events on Wednesday night, as the Beavers recorded an easy sweep of visiting Gordon College. The women won, 122-77, while the men prevailed, 120-88.
The women's team took 15 of their 16 races, with sophomore Sara Martinek leading the way with victories in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle competitions. Sophomore Mallory Mosk and first-year Keira Yeager also recorded multiple wins for Babson, as Mosk won the 1000 free and 100 fly while Yeager took first in the 50 breast and 500 free.
Also recording first-place finishes for the women's team were first-year Albertine Turrini in the 50 back, first-year Nevart Varadian in the 1-meter diving, sophomore Meaghan Rohde in the 100 back, first-year Hannah Powell in the 100 breast, sophomore Brittany Bishop in the 50 fly, and first-year Flynn Lincoln in the 3-meter diving. The 200 medley and 200 free relay teams were also victorious.
The men's team also dominated its half of the meet, winning all 16 events. Five different Babson men won two events each, including first-year Edvard Arnet in the 1000 free and 200 IM, senior captain Ted Plaisted in the 200 free and 100 back, first-year Ryan Akiba in the 50 and 100 breast, first-year Greg Bissett in the 50 and 100 free, and senior Aaron Paradis in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving. Other event winners for the Beavers included first-year Greg DeWitt in the 50 back, first-year David Yoon in the 100 fly, first-year Garek Berard in the 500 free, and junior Mark Merolle in the 50 fly. Like the women, the men also swept both the 200 medley and 200 free relay races.
Both teams wrap up a busy week with another home meet on Saturday, as they host Norwich University at 1 p.m.
