Men’s Soccer Claims NEWMAC Regular Season Title with 3-0 Victory over Coast Guard

Beavers Finish League Play Unbeaten for First Time Since 2012, Collect Seventh NEWMAC Regular Season Title in Last 11 Years

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Noah Parker (Hampden, Maine) and junior Alex Crompton (Killington, Vt.) both scored to help Babson College defeat the visiting Coast Guard Academy, 3-0, to clinch the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer regular season title on Sunday afternoon at MacDowell Field.

Babson, which was third in the most recent NCAA regional rankings, improves to 11-2-4 overall and 5-0-2 in league play, and will be the top seed in the NEWMAC Tournament. The Beavers conclude conference play unbeaten for the first time since 2012 and the regular season title is the seventh in the last 11 years under the direction of head coach Jon Anderson '75. Coast Guard wraps up its season at 6-9-3 overall and 1-5-1 in conference play.

Crompton, senior Jackson Greenspan (Meriden, N.H.), junior Youcef Ziad (Holbrook, Mass.) and first-year Mitchell Collins (Burlington, Mass.) all recorded an assist for Babson. Junior goalkeeper Steven Heintzelman (Middleton, Mass.) made three saves to record his eight clean sheet of the season.

Junior Dakota Harich (New Market, Md.) made three first-half saves and sophomore James Morrison (Antioch, Calif.) turned away two shots in the second half for the Bears.

Following a bit of possession along the right sideline, Crompton sent Ziad into space with a thru ball and Parker touched his service into the open net after Harich came off his line to play the cross to put the Green and White in front in the third minute. The Beavers doubled their advantage in the 24th minute when Harich made a diving stop on Ziad's shot from the right side of the box only to have it deflect off a Coast guard defender for an own goal.

Babson tacked on an insurance marker in the 79th minute when Crompton but away his fourth goal of the season with a diving header off a service from Collins.

Heintzelman handled a low free kick by Coast Guard sophomore Daniel Taglianetti (Wallingford, Conn.) in the ninth minute and snatched senior Patrick Palmero Re's (Manassas, Va.) rising strike just shy of the crossbar in the 75th minute for the Green and White.

The Beavers finished with a 13-6 edge in shots and 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Babson will return to action on Thursday when it hosts either Wheaton or MIT in a NEWMAC Tournament semifinal. Game time will be announced either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

• The Beavers are now 39-9-7 all-time against Coast Guard.
• Babson improves to 7-0-0 this season at home while outscoring its foes 15-2.
• The Beavers' two regular season losses are their fewest since 2011, when head coach Jon Anderson's '75 program made their last NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance.
• Parker has produced a goal in four of the last five matches and has recorded at least a point in eight consecutive outings.
