NEW LONDON, Conn.—Senior Noah Parker (Hampden, Maine) scored a pair of goals to help visiting Babson College defeat Mitchell College, 2-0, in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Babson, which is unbeaten over its last four matches, improves to 5-1-4 overall, while Mitchell slips to 3-6-0 on the year.
Junior Chris Czarnecki (Baltimore, Md.) and first-year Mitchell Collins (Burlington, Mass.) both picked up an assist for the Beavers. Junior goalkeeper Steven Heintzelman (Middleton, Mass.) made two saves to record his fifth shutout of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Seth Strader (Preston, Conn.) finished with seven saves for the Mariners.
Parker notched his first goal of the season just 4:05 into the contest when put away the rebound of a shot by Czarnecki from point-blank range to give the Green and White a 1-0 advantage. Babson added to its lead in the 54th minute when Parker beat Strader with a right-footed volley off a cross from Collins to make it 2-0.
Mitchell's best scoring chance came in the 70th minute when sophomore Quinn Outerbridge (Hamilton, Bermuda) made a run down the left wing before sending his shot high.
The Beavers finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots and held a slim 5-4 edge in corner kicks. The teams combined for 24 fouls in that match.
Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts Emerson at 1 p.m., while the Mariners hit the road to take on Newbury at 12 p.m.
• The Beavers are 2-0-0 all-time against Mitchell.
• Babson has posted three consecutive shutouts for the second time in 10 matches this season and has not allowed a goal in 324 minutes going back to September 22.
• Parker became the 10th different player to score a goal this season for the Beavers. He also is the first Babson player to score twice in a game since October 14 of last year when Czarnecki recorded a brace against Wheaton.
• The Green and White has trailed for just eight seconds this season and has conceded just one first-half goal in 10 outings.
