Men’s Soccer Fights Off New England College, 1-0

HENNIKER, N.H.—Junior Youcef Ziad (Holbrook, Mass.) scored in the 84th minute to lift visiting Babson College to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over new England College in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Don Melander Field.

Babson, which has won two straight games, improves to 4-1-3 on the year, while New England College slips to 4-4-1.

Senior Noah Parker (Hampden, Maine) picked up an assist and junior goalkeeper Austin Mankouski (Suffield, Conn.) made one save in his first start of the season for the Beavers.

Graduate student Dylan Mix (Charlestown, N.H.) finished with 14 saves for the Pilgrims.

The Green and White created plenty of quality scoring opportunities throughout the match but were unable to break through until late. Following a short goal kick, Ziad collected a pass from Parker and ripped a shot past Mix that took a deflection off a New England College defender for his first marker of the season.

Babson dominated the first half but was unable to go in front thanks to a number of strong saves by Mix. He came off his line to kick away a strike by first-year Mitchell Collins (Burlington, Mass.) in the 29th minute, denied Parker after he broke into the box in the 36th minute, and then snagged a low shot by Ziad just before the break.

Beavers' first-year Liam Hanlon (Boxborough, Mass.) missed just high with a header off a corner kick in the 60th minute, and then had another chance cleared off the goal line by a Pilgrims defender two minutes later. Just before notching the game-winning goal, Ziad chested down a long service into the box but was unable to keep his shot on frame.

The Green and White finished with a 29-7 advantage in shots and attempted seven of the game's nine corner kicks.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson travels to MIT at 3 p.m., while New England College hosts Eastern Nazarene at 1:30 p.m.

• With his game-winning tally, Ziad becomes the ninth different player to record a goal on the year for the Green and White.
