Villari's Heroics Lead Men's Soccer to NEWMAC Regular Season Title

BABSON PARK, Mass.—
Men's soccer senior Adam Villari (Landsdale, Pa.) scored the game-winning goal in three straight league matches, the last of which handed Babson College an overtime victory over previously unbeaten Springfield and helped the Beavers clinch their first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season title since 2012.

Villari, who led the team in scoring with seven goals, netted all three of his game winners in the 90th minute or later as the Green and White won its final six conference matches as part of an 11-game unbeaten streak to close out the regular season. He buried a free kick with nine seconds remaining in regulation for a 2-1 win at Wheaton on October 1 and then broke free and scored with five seconds to go in the second overtime as Babson defeated Clark 1-0 on October 8. Villari capped the three-match run by touching home a rebound in the 98th minute for a 2-1 overtime triumph over the Pride on October 22.

The Beavers would go on to earn shutout victories over WPI and Emerson in their final two NEWMAC fixtures to capture the league title. Babson, which conceded just four goals during its 11-game unbeaten streak and just six tallies over its final 13 matches, qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in nine years going back to 2008.
