Babson and Curry will meet for the 13th time on Thursday night in a series that dates back to 2004. The Beavers are 9-3 all-time against the Colonels and have won each of the last four matchups.
Mike Vollmin '16 finished with a goal and an assist as the Beavers defeated Curry, 3-1, on October 31, 2015, in Babson Park. Senior Tim Searles and sophomore Tommy Munichiello both added a goal for the Green and White, while senior Sean Nelson scored the Colonels' lone goal.
LAST CURRY WIN
Payden Benning scored twice and Greg Fusco added a goal and an assist as the Colonels scored three times in the third period to pull away for a 6-2 victory over the Beavers on December 8, 2011, in Babson Park. Matt O'Neill '14 and Andrew Bonazza '15 both scored for the Green and White.
SCOUTING THE COLONELS
Curry (5-3-1) stopped a two-game winless skid with an 8-4 victory at the University of New England on Saturday. Nelson and senior Tyler Vankleef both had two goals and first-year Alec Mono finished with three assists for the Colonels, who scored four times on the power play. Vankleef (10-3-13) has struck for five power play goals, Nelson (5-7-12) is third on the team in assists and junior Adam Valado (4-8-12) leads the squad with a pair of game-winning goals. Senior goaltender Brett Sinclair is 4-3-1 with a 3.68 goals against average and a .889 save percentage in nine starts this season.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Babson (7-4-1) is looking to snap a three-game losing streak after falling to No. 5/6 Norwich, 2-0, on Saturday. Sophomore netminder Matt Pompa made 23 saves before the Cadets broke a scoreless deadlock at 16:17 of the third period. The Beavers were limited to a season-low 18 shots in the loss. Senior Michael Phillips (3-9-12) has scored one game-winning goal and leads the team in assists, Munichiello (6-6-12) and junior Rob Devaney (4-7-11) have combined for six power play tallies, and senior Dan Casey has contributed three goals and five assists for eight points. Pompa and fellow sophomore Bryan Botcher have posted a 2.40 goals against average and a .920 save percentage on the year.
FOLLOW THE CAPTAIN
Phillips, who played in his 96th career game on Saturday at Norwich, has one goal and three assists for four points in three previous matchups against Curry.
DEPENDING ON THE DEFENSE
The Beavers, who rank 17th nationally in scoring defense (2.42 goals), have allowed two goals or less in six of their first 12 outings. The Colonels enter Thursday's tilt averaging 4.33 goals, which ranks 12th in Division III.
STAYING OUT OF THE BOX
Babson is averaging just 10.17 penalty minutes, which is the seventh lowest average in Division III. The Green and White also has been whistled for four or fewer penalties in five of its last seven contests.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Beavers are 5-0-1 this season and 23-1-2 going back to the start of last season when scoring three or more goals.
