Hoban, Smith Both Honored By ECAC East


BABSON PARK, Mass. -- After extending its unbeaten streak to five games, the Babson College ice hockey team saw two of its players earn weekly league honors for the second consecutive week on Monday. Sophomore Mike Hoban (Medfield, Mass.) was named ECAC East Player of the Week, while freshman Ryan Smith (Lynnfield, Mass.) was chosen as the ECAC East Rookie of the Week.

Hoban recorded four goals and three assists for seven points in a 2-0-1 week for Babson. On Tuesday, he recorded one goal and assisted three others in a 6-2 victory over non-conference power Curry. Then on Friday, Hoban scored the game-winning goal in a 4-1 victory over Saint Michael's. Hoban finished the week by scored a pair of goals in a 3-3 tie with second-ranked Norwich on Saturday.

Smith totaled two goals and two assists for four points in three games this week. He recorded one goal and one assist in the Beavers' win over Curry and then added a goal the victory over Saint Michael's. Smith closed out his four-point week by dishing out an assist against Norwich on Saturday.

Now 4-0-1 in their last five games, the Beavers have upped their record to 10-7-2 overall and 7-5-1 in ECAC East play. With six regular season contests remaining, Babson is currently alone in second place in the league standings with 15 points.
