Bornhorst Rallies From Three-Shot Deficit to Tie for Medalist Honors as Beavers Win for Third Time in Four Weeks
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.—Sophomore Chris Bornhorst (West Newton, Mass.) rallied from three shots back to tie for medalist honors as the Babson College men's golf squad captured its third team title of the fall at the Elms Blazer Invitational at the Orchards Golf Club on Monday afternoon.
The Beavers, who led by three after Sunday's first round at Hickory Ridge Golf Club in Amherst, posted a 304 on Monday to win by 14 shots with a 36-hole total of 598. Western New England and Rhode Island College tied for second at 612, Westfield State came in fourth at 619 and Nichols rounded out the top five at 622.
Following a 2-over 74 on Sunday, Bornhorst fired a 1-over 72 on Sunday to finish atop the leaderboard with Alex Honigford of Tufts at 3-over 146. First-year Lane Bohman (Chatham, Mass.) followed up Sunday's 71 with a 79 to finish sixth overall at 7-over 150.
Senior Kyle Alexander (Brewer, Maine) carded a final round 76 to tie for seventh place with first-year teammate Reed Wilson (Redlands, Calif.) at 8-over 151. Senior Ian Notkin (Caldwell, N.J.) shot an 83 on Monday and finished with a two-day total of 163.
Babson wraps up the fall portion of its schedule at the NEIGA Championship on October 22-23.
• Bornhorst has won back-to-back tournaments and has posted three top-five and five top-20 finishes in five starts this fall.
• The Beavers, who shot a 294 at Hickory Ridge on Sunday, have broken 300 in five of their last eight rounds.
• Since finishing sixth to open the season at Trinty, Babson has won three times to go along with a fourth-place showing at Williams over the last four weekends.
