Bornhorst, Men's Golf Breeze to Third Consecutive NECC Championship

BABSON PARK, Mass.—
First-year Chris Bornhorst (West Newton, Mass.) opened with a 2-under par 70 and the Babson College men's golf team built a 23-stroke lead on its way to capturing a third consecutive New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship on October 1 at Wachusett Country Club in West Boylston.

Bornhorst finished with a 36-hole total of 1-under par 143 to post a seven-shot victory as the Beavers put all five of their players on the all-conference team and claimed the first four spots on the individual leaderboard. Fellow first-year Martin Jensen (Bronxville, N.Y.) came in second with rounds of 77-73, while sophomore Lukas Linemayr (Hampton, N.H.) was third with a 7-over total of 151 to finish two shots clear of first-year David Choi (Dallas, Texas). Junior Ian Notkin (Caldwell, N.J.) made the all-conference team for the third year in a row by tying for sixth place as the Green and White finished 42 shots ahead of second-place Springfield College with a two-round team score of 595.

The individual victory was the first for Bornhorst, who became the third Babson rookie to earn NECC Player of the Year honors in as many years. He followed it up by taking medalist honors at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship in late October, and concluded the year by earning Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA)/PING All-Northeast region honors after helping the Beavers finish 25th at the Division III NCAA Championship in May.
