Men's Golf Comes in Third at Western New England Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Sophomore Benjamin Crawford (Houston, Texas) shot a 1-over 73 and regionally-ranked Babson College recorded its lowest score of the spring to finish third at the Western New England Invitational on Thursday at Veterans Golf Club.

The Beavers' team total of 303, their third lowest of the 2016-17 season, was just three shots behind the host Bears and one shot in back of runner-up Rhode Island College. Endicott (309) and Salem State (315) rounded out the top five in the 10-team event.

Crawford, who finished third overall, posted the lowest round of his career in relation to par. First-year Chris Bornhorst (West Newton, Mass.) led the team with three birdies and tied for fourth place at 2-over-74, while junior Kyle Alexander (Brewer, Maine) and sophomore Lukas Linemayr (Hampton, N.H.) finished in a nine-way tie for 13th position at 6-over 78.

First-year Martin Jensen (Bronxville, N.Y.) rounded out the line up with an 80.

Babson, which owns two second-place and a pair of third-place finishes this spring, returns to action on Saturday with the first round of the 36-hole Johnson & Wales Invitational at Cranston Country Club.
