Choi Tied for First on Indvidual Leaderboard after Opening Round 75
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—First-year David Choi (Dallas, Texas) shot a 3-over par 75 and the Babson College men's golf team is tied for the lead after the opening round of the UMass Dartmouth Hampton Inn Invitational on Friday at Allendale Country Club.
The Beavers posted a team score of 310 and are tied with Tufts, six shots ahead of third-place Rhode Island College (316). UMass Dartmouth (319) is nine shots back in fourth place, while Amherst sits in fifth after finishing the first round at 322.
Choi, who is one of three Babson golfers inside the top 10 after 18 holes, is tied with Owen Elliott of Tufts for the top spot on a tightly-packed individual leaderboard. Sophomore Riley Whitham (Harvard, Mass.), who was making his season debut after missing the fall due to injury, is tied for fifth just two shots back after shooting a 5-over par 77, while classmate Benjamin Crawford (Houston, Texas) sits in a tie for eighth position after carding a first round 78.
Junior Ian Notkin (Caldwell, N.J.) shot 80 on day one and is tied for 14th place, while first-year Chris Bornhost (West Newton, Mass.), who had opened the season with 10 consecutive rounds in the 70s, signed for an 82 on Friday.
The Green and White, which won its final three events of the fall season, returns to Allendale C.C. for the final round of the tournament on Saturday at 1 p.m.
