WESTFIELD, Mass.—Babson College men's golf first-year Martin Jensen (Bronxville, N.Y.) claimed medalist honors with a 1-over par 72 and the Beavers posted a team total of 8-over par 292 to win the Westfield State Invitational on Tuesday at Tekoa Country Club.
The Green and White finished 14 shots ahead of two-time defending champions Rhode Island College and 17 strokes clear of third-place Westfield State. Worcester State (329) and MCLA (332) rounded out the top five.
Jensen carded four birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey in the winning round on the 6,315-yard Donald Ross/Geoffrey Cornish layout. He doubled his first hole of the day, then went around the next 17 holes in 1-under par, ending with a par to finish one shot ahead of junior Pranav Mohan (Fremont, Calif.) and sophomore Lukas Linemayr (Hampton, N.H.), who finished in a three-way tie for second after shooting 73.
Sophomore Benjamin Crawford (Houston, Texas) tied for fifth with a 3-over par round of 74, while junior Dan Young (Westwood, Mass.) carded a career-best 75 to tie for seventh place.
Babson returns to action on Saturday when it opens play at the NECC Championship at Wachusett Country Club at 11 a.m. The Beavers are seeking their third straight conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
• The victory was the second of the season for the Beavers, who also captured the Roger Williams Invitational last Wednesday.
• Babson's team score of 292 is its lowest four-ball total since shooting 289 in the first round of the 2011 NECC Championship at D.W. Field Golf Course in Brockton.
• Linemayr's round of 73 was his lowest in nine career rounds for the Beavers.
