WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College senior Frank Oftring (North Attleboro, Mass.) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Oftring scored 16 points, grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds and blocked two shots in the Beavers' 76-48 rout of Bates on Sunday afternoon. He grabbed 12 defensive boards and keyed a dominating defensive effort that included holding the Bobcats to their lowest shooting percentage (23 percent) since the opening game of the 2017-18 campaign.
Through five games, Oftring is averaging 13.4 points and team highs of 7.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks to go along with 2.4 assists in 22.0 minutes. He also is shooting 55.8 percent from the floor.
Babson (5-0) returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Bowdoin at 2 p.m.
