WESTWOOD, Mass.—Coming off a fifth consecutive conference tournament semifinal appearance last winter, Babson College was picked to finish fourth when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its men's basketball preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday morning.
Defending tournament champions MIT took home seven of eight first-place votes to finish atop the poll for the second year in a row. Springfield College, which reached the Division III Final Four last season, garnered the other first place vote to come in second. WPI was one spot ahead of the Beavers in third place and the Coast Guard Academy rounded out the top five.
The Green and White brings back three of its top five scorers and nine players overall from a team that went 15-11 overall and 10-4 in league play a year ago. Head coach Stephen Brennan, who enters his 24th year at the helm, returns three of his top five scorers and has guided the program to 10 or more NEWMAC wins in each of the last five seasons.
Babson opens the 2018-19 campaign at Johnson & Wales on Sunday at 7 p.m.
